SABIC’s TRUCIRCLETM team is looking for two (2) interns, eager to contribute to our sustainability mission. Under the TRUCIRCLETM umbrella, we focus on innovation and sustainability solutions, as well as the transition towards a circular economy, with an ambition to close the loop of plastic material.
We focus on four (4) pillars that contribute to our sustainability mission:
1. Design for recyclability;
2. Mechanically recycled products;
3. Certified circular polymers;
4. Certified renewable polymers.
The video below provides some insights into each of the pillars.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIcCUCmGrmg
We are looking for two (2) highly motivated interns to support our TRUCIRCLETM team with the development and research around reverse logistics. Reverse logistics are the logistical movements required to turn used mixed plastics into feedstock again and use it as input for recycling processes.
The goal of the internship is to do research into the used mixed plastics landscape in Europe and to create a complete overview (e.g. flows, parties, etc.). With this information you should be able to give us recommendations in which areas SABIC could benefit of implementing reverse logistics.
Leading question
What does the used mixed plastics market look like and where are opportunities for SABIC?
Possible sub-questions
o Which flows of used mixed plastic can be defined?
o Which parties typically process them?
o How can SABIC secure future feedstock consisting of used mixed plastics to close the loop?
You will conduct the research internship together with another intern. Additionally, you will work with people from different departments and stakeholders inside SABIC. You need to be able to connect the dots in search of the answers to the research question(s).
The internship will last three (3) months, around sixteen (16) to twenty (20) hours per week. It can easily be combined with writing a thesis or otherwise. You have to be registered at a Dutch University or other Dutch educational institution during the time of your internship. Under normal circumstances, you would work from the European Head Office in Sittard, The Netherlands, but due to the current COVID-19 situation, the internship will be virtual and remote (home office). Your country of residence needs to be The Netherlands.
We are not looking for any specific educational background for the internship. It is important for SABIC that you are passionate about the circular economy and interested in logistics, supply chain, recycling, customer relations, or closing the plastics material flow. We are looking for students who are able to work independently, think outside the box, are team players, and hard working. We will select two (2) interns that will contribute to developing TRUCRICLETM at SABIC and make a sustainable impact on the world around them.
Please upload your application via our website (resume and motivation letter), before 2021 March first.
For additional information and/or questions, please contact Laura Nieboer, Analyst Circular Economy, 06-50067341, laura.nieboer@sabic.com.
A financial compensation is in place, following SABIC corporate guidelines.
