POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for a Regional Finance Associate to join our growing Corporate Accounting team in Amsterdam or London. This full-time position will be responsible for a broad range of corporate finance responsibilities across the European region including the support of local financial and accounting reporting, oversight of daily operations for certain European entities, assisting in the preparation of financial statements, tax returns, and more. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the local month-end close processes and maintenance of the general ledgers
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly account reconciliations and financial reporting deliverables, including bank reconciliation processes
  • Oversight and support of day to day finance operations within Europe
  • Prepare, record, and adjust general journal entries, working closely with our Global Delivery Center
  • Perform monthly Income Statement and Balance Sheet reconciliations to ensure an accurate monthly accounting close process

The International FILM Assistant Controller role is based in Amsterdam. This team is part of the International Controllership team, which comprises 15 Controllers and Assistant Controllers. We are looking for an enthusiastic new team member to join us and assist in the delivery of high standards and operational excellence, building a strong Controllership environment.
Job Summary
The Assistant Film Controller’s primary responsibility is ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the general ledgers, balance sheet and corporate reporting of the distribution activities of various territories primarily under Home Entertainment. This includes monitoring key financial cycles ensuring compliance with accounting regulations and NBCU policies.
The Assistant Controller is ultimately responsible for managing the financial process and procedures that ensure that NBCU accurately manage the finances in accordance with company policy and standards and in compliance with local legislation in the various territories.
This role reports directly to Film Financial Controller in the Netherlands. This position will manage and oversee all the finance tasks that have been delegated to an outsourcing partner and are performed by a team of 2-3 persons.
This role is also tasked with proactively identifying ways to support the Financial Controller role, such as suggestions to streamline processes, or volunteering to work on ad-hoc projects where appropriate.
The Assistant Controller will work closely with NBCU’s Statutory Controller, internal/external auditors, NBCU tax and local tax advisors on local statutory/tax audits/filings, ensure compliance with local legislation and reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities 
Month-end / Quarter-end Financial reporting 
-  Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations for the general and sub-ledger.
- Responsible for all elements of the close process; sign off on key journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
- Review monthly and quarterly balance sheet and P&L for compliance with Group policies and consistency with business understanding
- Assemble/ review quarterly supplemental data request submissions and ensure all corporate reporting obligations are met.
- Provide ad-hoc reporting and analysis (including for non-finance departments)
- Partner with and support the financial planning and analysis team, providing information to support the budget and forecasting cycles and communicate warnings of risks and opportunities impacting the P&L and/or cash flow)
Controllership and special projects
- The Assistant Controller is part of NBCU’s controllership team and responsible for the internal control environment, ensuring compliance with group policies and procedures, laws and regulations, the integrity of financial and operational information. Continuously evaluating the internal control system and assessing risks and effectively communicating potential risks and issues as they arise, come up with suggestions how to mitigate these risks and implement appropriate measures (rolling out best practice).
- Developing and leveraging key relationships with Controllership Teams in Amsterdam, LA and the UK, the local finance and non-finance team’s in the various territories and the International Fin Ops team, demonstrating a high level of cultural consciousness, collaboration and flexibility is a critical part of the role.
- Support special finance projects as assigned, acting as a business partner and consultant when performing these duties. Projects relate to, but not limited to improving monthly close process, IT enhancement projects and operational systems used, implementation of new reporting tools, simplification and integration projects etc.
- Proactively foster a culture of continuous improvement and look for opportunities to add value to existing processes as they are performed as well as proposing opportunities to streamline, improve or adjust these.
- Seek out opportunities to collaborate across the Amsterdam Finance Team and share best practice and promote knowledge sharing among team members.
Statutory and Tax reporting
- Identify, document and drive compliance with local Statutory requirements.
- Assisting in the External and Internal audits and work with the statutory controller and outsourced finance partner to collect audit evidence and support for the Financial Statements and required disclosures.
- Support to the NBCU Tax team to ensure compliance with local tax regulations and reporting requirements in the area of corporate income tax, withholding tax and VAT in respect of NBCU’s non-US operations and provide required documentation during internal and external reviews or audits.
- Provide input to the NBCU Tax Team for Transfer Pricing documentation for various entities in different jurisdictions.
Governance
- Support NBCU’s FinOps end-to-end RTR, P2P and OTC process improvement projects with operational input.
- Work closely with the Outsourced Provider’s team lead to ensure all the accounting activities outsourced are being performed as agreed; work with NBCU’s Fin Ops team and governance groups to support performance metrics on outsourced work and identifying areas for improvement or expansion of scope of work.
Other
- Be the Finance subject matter expert for all the Strategic Partnership processes and systems used.
- Drive simplification & enhancements of automated reporting solutions and tools used that support the reporting and controlling for these distribution activities – involving large volumes of data.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential
- Proactive and self-motivated, eager to take responsibility.

- Strong communication skills both upstream and downstream. Ability to present ideas and findings.
- Fluent in English, written and verbal.
- Advanced degree on finance or accounting (preferred ACA, ACCA, CIMA, US CPA, Dutch RA/RC qualified).
- Minimum of 5+ years of professional working experience as an Assistant Controller or similar finance position within a large multinational organisation. Public accounting experience is a big plus.
- Relevant international accounting experience with exposure to multi-currency environment, local laws and regulations, tax and transfer pricing exposure.
- Strong technical accounting experience, including comprehensive understanding of US GAAP, UK GAAP, IFRS etc.
- Experience of working with outsourced finance partners or managing team in remote location would be a plus.
- Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills to quickly resolve unique, complex and challenging issues and concerns independently, being effective and decisive.
- Proficient user of financial accounting systems and competent in Microsoft Office, SAP and AOE experience desired, but not essential.
- Developed analytical and problem-solving skills.

WHAT YOU'LL DO AS A RESEARCH ANALYST:

  • Perform fundamental analysis of equities to forecast dividend stream for a portfolio of stocks;

  • Monitor stock market newswires for updates regarding the amount or timing of company distributions;

  • Maintain a database of events and pricing;

  • Monitor news to define scenarios and assess the impact of upcoming events on dividend estimates;

  • Build relationship with external stakeholders such as investor relations, exchange and index providers;

  • Evaluate impact of special situations on pricing;

  • Collaborate with traders on investment ideas

YOUR PROFILE:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Econometrics, Financial Engineering or related fields of studies;

  • Maximum of 3 years of experience in financial markets, with a preference of basic knowledge of finance and experience using Bloomberg/Reuters;

  • Strong written, analytical, and financial research skills;

  • Demonstrable interest in, and some knowledge of, single stock and macroeconomic environment;

  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a fast paced, dynamic environment;

  • Options knowledge including understanding of the Greeks is a plus;

  • Ability to work successfully in a fast-moving and competitive environment;

  • Experience with programming in Python is a plus;

  • Desire to work in a team environment is a must

Profile
  • Bachelor degree in Business economics or Finance
